Dr. Rankin
New Bern, NC has been home to Dr. Rankin since beginning his orthodontic practice in 1993. His passion for orthodontics began at a young age in his father's office, who still practices orthodontics to this day. Dr. Rankin's unique combination of experience, technical expertise and warm personal approach to care attracts people of all ages, making patients and parents feel right at home.
The philosophy of our practice is very straight forward - treat all patients as you would treat your own family, in a fun and professional manner, using the latest advances offered in orthodontics. There is nothing more satisfying then seeing the changes in the lives of our patients as they go through and complete their orthodontic treatment.
Dr. Rankin received his undergraduate degree from Bucknell University in 1984. He then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he attained his DDS degree. While at UNC he received an award from the American Association of Orthodontists for exceptional research in facial development. To complete his education he obtained his specialty certificate in orthodontics at the University of Connecticut.
Professionally he is a member of several organizations:

- Seattle Study Club
- North Carolina Association of Orthodontists (presently on the board)
- Super Schulman Group
Dr. Rankin and his wife Melissa keep busy in their spare time with their three children, Wyatt, Mia and new arrival Dahlia. He is involved with coaching several of his children's teams, community projects and his church. With any remaining time he enjoys playing golf or spending time at the beach with his family.
Dr. Gorman
Dr. Gorman was raised in the Winterville community of eastern North Carolina. He graduated from the University of North Carolina with a BS degree and attended the UNC School of Dentistry where he received his DDS degree.
After serving in the Air Force for two years and practicing as a general dentist for another two years, Dr. Gorman entered the orthodontic program at the UNC School of Dentistry, earning a Master of Science in Orthodontics (MSO) in 1972. Dr. Gorman then started a solo orthodontic practice in New Bern and Havelock which continued for the next 37 years until becoming affiliated with Dr. Rankin.
He has previously served as president of both the UNC Dental Alumni Association and the UNC Orthodontic Alumni Association.
Currently, Dr. Gorman and his wife Linda live in Trentwoods. They have two married children with wonderful spouses and six special grandchildren. He enjoys both land and water sports and is an avid UNC sports fan.
